Hawks rookie Trae Young on Jeremy Lin: ‘He’s going to be a great mentor for me’

Trae Young is excited to learn from Jeremy Lin.

The Hawks acquired Young from the Mavericks in a draft day deal. They then added Lin in a trade with the Nets.

The 19-year-old rookie point guard said he thinks he’ll work well with Lin.

“From what I’ve heard, he’s going to be a great mentor for me,” Young told The Athletic about Lin. “We’ve been talking. He’s a good dude. He’s been through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. He’s seen it all, so I’m looking forward to picking his brain.”

The Hawks finished last season with a 24-58 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2006-07. They parted ways with coach Mike Budenholzer in late April and hired former 76ers assistant Lloyd Pierce to replace him.

Young said he wants to help “turn the franchise” around.

“I want to get back to winning, and I know the city of Atlanta wants that, and it’s our job to bring it back,” Young said.
